Former Major League baseball pitcher John Wetteland was charged with sexual abuse of a child under 14 years of age in Texas. Wetteland, 52, was arrested on Monday and released on a $25,000 bond.

Wetteland lives in the Trophy Club suburb of Dallas, Texas, and Bartonville Police Chief Bobby Dowell told Associated Press that his office was contacted last week by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. After an investigation, Wetteland was charged with a child sex abuse case after an investigation.

Here's more from the Associated Press report:

Dowell said that he had no further details to release due to the nature of the case and the stage of the investigation. Marissa Gonzales, the DFPS spokeswoman, said the details of the cases of the agency are confidential.

Wetteland is accused of having a child perform a sex act on him, starting in 2004 when the child was 4, according to a consolidated complaint and probable cause of affidavit. The accuser said it happened twice more over a period of two years.

Wetteland pitched in the majors for four teams from 1989 to 2000. He was a three-time All-Star, saved 330 years of his career and entered the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame. In 1996, Wetteland also won World Series MVP awards with the Yankees. Wetteland was hired as a national bullpen coach before the 2006 season, but manager Frank Robinson fired him in June of that year.
