Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman are often described as couple goals, with many seeking after the relationship the couple have. They’ve been married since 2006, but how did they meet?

Keith and Nicole met at a gala in 2005. The pair didn’t talk for four months after the event, but despite this they quickly wed in the year following crossing paths.

Read more below about Keith and Nicole’s sensational love story and how their marriage almost hit rock bottom just months after their wedding.

A Love Story

Keith had never been hitched to anyone before, though Nicole was married to Tom Cruise for a long time before they separated in 2001. The entertainer covered herself in her work after the split, however, she conceded that she was at a very lonely point following the pair’s split, as indicated by Entertainment Tonight.

She chose to concentrate on herself as much as she did her profession, and that is the point at which she discovered Keith. “I was able to navigate through about five or six years and then I sort of stumbled into Keith, literally stumbled into him and in my spontaneous way, got married very quickly and we got to know each other when we were married,” she said.

With respect to where they discovered one another, it was in January 2005 at an event. Keith posted a photograph of the two together from the night, yet Nicole admitted to Ellen DeGeneres that he didn’t call her for four months after their initial meet! No worries there though, as in the year following the pair wed.

A Marriage Made To Survive

Just as is the case with all relationships, Keith and Nicole’s marriage has been accompanied with its bumps and grooves. Early in their marriage, Keith was institutionalized for his alcohol addiction – this wasn’t his first rodeo though, as he’d been in treatment for illicit drug use prior to that, according to People.

Keith concurs that it’s a miracle that their marriage has endured everything, as he uncovered to the Rolling Stone:

“There’s just so much s*** underneath all that that you didn’t see… I caused the implosion of my fresh marriage. It survived, but it’s a miracle it did.” He later said that it’s with thanks to his wife that “for the first time in my life, I could shake off the shackles of addiction.”

Nicole admitted that she was hesitant to give her all to the marriage at first after her failed prior marriage to Cruise, “When you’re older, you’ve been through things, you’ve made mistakes, so you come into it still giddy, but wanting it to last,” she told Red in 2018, according to People.

Couple Goals?

According to so many sources, including Yahoo, Hello! and Good Morning America to name a few, Nicole and Keith are the ultimate couple goals. With all the sweet tributes the couple pay to each other, it’s unsurprising that we all think that they’re couple goals – Keith even compiled and uploaded an entire album of loved up selfies with his wife to Instagram.

It’s pretty obvious that Keith and Nicole share a great relationship and technically they do match the definition of couple goals as they do look like they have it all, but at the same time, they’re a genuine couple who have come head to head with the media, who at times, have scrutinized their marriage from time to time. Despite this, they’ve come out the other side even though in 2018, Nicole was having ‘secret’ meetings with divorce lawyers!
